Week 14 - September 5, 2014

Hello Neighbors:

Today is a quick email as Bienvenidos Outreach has been keeping me hopping busy.

Last week was the best market of the season. Perfect weather, record crowds, and a great assortment of products available. Melons, pears, apples, chile, potatoes, tomatoes, corn and other items we have been waiting for at the market arrived and every seemed happy.

This week, the weather sounds very iffy, with a 50% chance of rain. Let’s wait and see. Two weeks ago, the weather forecast was similar, but Eldorado received just a few drops of rain. Some vendors were able to get to the market, others couldn’t because it was raining heavily where they live. Tomorrow signs for the market may go up a little later than usual, but every effort will be made to have your Eldorado Farmers’ Market up and running. Thank you for your support.

Last week’s winner of the Market Basket was long-time customer Wendy Comellas. Oh, what a beautiful basket she received! Congrats, Wendy!

Winner of the email coupon was another long-time customer, Krista Wester. Congrats, Krista!

Returning this week to the Market are Todd and Julio from Ranchline All Natural. We missed you guys last week.

Missing this week will be Aarin from Zen Sharpening. He will be back next week. Aarin, you have been a great addition to our Farmers’ Market. Thank you for joining us!

Also missing this will be Christina from Christina Keibler: Fiber and Soap. Christina asked me to share the following information with you:

“I will be away from the market for the next two weeks as I make more soap and travel to visit friends! Please note that my textiles will be depleted at market when I return; Dancing Ladies de Santa Fe on Canyon Road is now representing some of my textiles, and I am preparing more textiles to show at the Eldorado Arts and Crafts Association Fall Show in October, and the Recycle Santa Fe Art Festival in December. But when I return to market I’ll have for sale my In Creamy Condition bar, including 11 skin-conditioning oils and butters, just in time for fall!”

See you at the Market!

Susan

Week 12 - August 22, 2014

Tomatoes are back! Yes, you read that right. Slowly but surely, we will start to see more and more tomatoes each week.

He will also be bringing Padron, small Japanese frying peppers, Santa Fe Grandes and Ghost peppers. Welcome to the market Andy!.

The winner of the $5.00 Eldorado Farmers’ Market coupon was Phil Taccetta, a new raffle player who just signed up to our email list. Congrats to you, too, Phil!

The weather may be iffy tomorrow, but please, come and check out the market. There are always vendors who stick out the bad weather and stay. If it gets really bad, we do close down, but we all try to keep it open as long as possible.

Week 9 - August 1, 2014

Hello Neighbors:

Thanks to all who came out last week. It was a beautiful day full of sunshine and meeting new vendors at the market (Welcome Co Yo and Silva’s).

Just a short note today. Next week’s email will break down what types of products we will have at the market and any news items I get from our vendors.

This week, the weather may not cooperate with us but we really won’t know until it’s time to start the market. We live in a crazy area where it can be pouring fiercely in one section of Eldorado and another section won’t get a drop. Or, the market will get hit by a downpour and 30 minutes later, you would not have known that it rained. We are sorry if we close the market or end it early, but we must put safety first for both our vendors and customers.

Though cell reception can be a challenge, if you want to see who is at the market, please call me at 920-5660. I will check for messages every 30 minutes.

Last week’s winner of the market basket was James Bowles. Congrats, James, and we hope you enjoyed your basket of goodies from your market vendors.

The email winner of the $5.00 Eldorado Farmers’ Market Coupon was Dana Wisehart. Congratulations, Dana! You can pick up your coupon at the Bienvenidos Outreach table.

If attendance is low tomorrow due to weather, any tickets turned in will go towards next week’s basket.

See you at the market!

Susan

It is all looking good “down at the farm” and like you, we are looking forward to several varieties of tomatoes, summer squash and cukes… Meanwhile, we are still enjoying copious amounts of arugula –eaten raw in salads, fried in egg frittata and as pesto on pasta and steamed veggies! The mint and wild anise sun teas are a refreshing drink after weeding. Do stop by if you wish to learn more about the age-old uses for herbs like comfrey, catnip, mint and mullein. Pick up some tasty dried tomatoes from last season’s crop. Make the waiting fun with Ani Rocks of veggies, pets and more. You can order a 3D pet portrait on a rock. Bring your kids by to hear the story about “Stone Soup” and to pick up a coloring sheet they can bring back to receive a free painted rock!

Week 3 - June 20, 2014

Hello Neighbors:

Thanks to all the customers who braved the elements last week to support the market! Some of our vendors had to leave (they were drenched!) but will be back this week. If you want to see if your favorite vendor is at the market before you come, please call me at 920-5660. I check every half hour to see if I missed any calls, so remember to leave your number for me if you get voice mail. I’m working on a way to make sure if a vendor needs to leave early that their product is available to you. More on this new idea to follow!

This week, I got great news that Tammy Walden of Triple Hearts Organic Farm will be joining us with her certified organic jams. Tammy is located in Moriarty and makes a Four Berry Jam, Spicy Strawberry Jam and a Tropical Jam. One version is made with sugar and the other version is made with honey. Tammy is planning on making it to this Friday’s market, so keep your eyes out for her and give her a big welcome!

News from vendors:

Dandy Lion Produce: - The growing season is off to a great start! This Friday look for bags of just-cut arugula, flavorful dried tomatoes and other herbs such as mint, catnip, sage and wild anise. Jim and Ani -of Ani Rocks Santa Fe- will be happy to share ideas on ways you can take advantage of these gifts from Mother Nature (hint: arugula makes a delicious pesto to be served on pasta, rice, veggies or salad! Or how about frying it in some olive oil and making an egg frittata?) I’m praying to be given “patience right now” as we await the many varieties of fresh and dried tomatoes, juicy cucumbers, and succulent summer squash to grow. Please stop by our blue tent and let’s share stories and recipes! KIDS: Pick up a Dandy Lion coloring sheet and bring it back to receive a free painted Ani Rock.

Our honey prices remain the same: $ 9.00 for a pint, $18.00 for Quart, except for the specialty honies like the orange blossom is $10.00 pint, and $ 20.00 Quart. We like to recycle the jars and they get fifty cents credit or cash for every canning jar, or if they want to bring their own jar or container we will fill for them. We will have a nice mix of last year’s vendors and new vendors at the market each week and by the end of the month, or new website, www.eldoradonmfarmetsmarket.com will be fully operational with info on the market (sneak a peek if you wish!). Thanks to the Eldorado Daily for putting together the website and helping us maintain it. Vendors will be submitting information to add to the site over the next few weeks and we will add news and special features as the season progresses.
